Big numbers

Multiply together two numbers formed by the digits 1 to 9 each digit used once.  How big a number can you get?

The biggest number is 9642*87531 = 843973902

The following method, by Grant Nyeste, was received in May 1998. "Take the two highest values (8,9) and make two numbers out of them. Distribute the other digits alternatively starting with the lower value 87... and 96.., then 875. and 964., then 8753. and 9642, finally 87531*9642. So my highest is 9642*87531 = 843973902"
